crankier Solar Furnace 2002 Aug 17
     ... astronomy . chemistry . meteorology ...
"Scroll down for flowers and rings ... The solar furnace would be in orbit approximatly 5 000 000 km from the sun. Standard solar furnace designs (such as the commercial one in france) will be suitable for this purpose. It will be different in that instead of using the light to produce steam it will instead use a Fresnel lens or a prism to separate the light into it's individual wavelengths. The light will then be transmitted to a geostationary earth orbit sattelite for transmission to earth. It is necessary to do this to reduce interferrence scattering of the light. At the output side of the fresnel lens or the prism will be bundles of optical fibers, these will be used to aim all identical wavelengths of light at the same mirror. From there the beam will be aimed at an ocean station on earth to be converted to hydrogen and oxygen, or into the stratosphere to destroy the molecules that cause pollution, depending on their wavelength. The wavelengths aimed through the stratosphere would be only the specific wavelengths required to destroy chlorofluorocarbons, chlorine monoxide, sulfur dioxide etc. These beams would not strike the earth, but would pass through the stratosphere and back out coming within 15 km from earth. This would give them twice the time as an earthbound laser to strike their target molecules from each km3 of seawater distilled the following chemicals and minerals can be recovered ..."

cranky Quest for the Philosopher's Stone 2000 Nov 18
     ... chemistry . nuclear physics . new age ...
"Since ancient Egyptian times, alchemists have worked in secret to produce something called the Philosopher's Stone, or the Elixir of Life. The materials that Hudson and other researchers have found are believed to be related to the Philosopher's Stone. The materials have been called ORMEs, monoatomic gold, white gold, white powder gold, ORMUS, m-state, AuM, microclusters, and manna. David Hudson calls the materials he found Orbitally Rearranged Monoatomic Elements or ORMEs. He also refers to them as monoatomic elements in a high-spin state. ... The ORMUS or m-state materials are thought to be the precious metal elements in a different atomic state."

"If it is found that any extant entity or collection of entities maintains an uncomfortable congruence to the caricatures and ridiculous comedic exaggerations contained herein, the author offers his apologies and condolences ... and if you are still pissed off, you are invited to go pound sand up your ass. Conciliation has its limits."

"As you might guess from the above title, this page and it's contents are all biased toward God the creator. Due to variations in personal beliefs, you may or may not see any value in the information. ... Proof Jesus' name is on his thigh ... Proof God predicted present-day history ... Proof God is a high-frequency spectra [sic] of energy ... Proof God predicted nuclear bombs ... Proof God described planet formation ... Proof God described planet density trends ... Proof God describeda 'pre-sun' star ... Proof God's Firmament allows measuring an exploding star ... Proof God gave the process that formed all the elements ..."

crankiest How to Make Red Mercury 2000 Mar 09
     ... science . chemistry . urban legends ...
"For years, there have been rumors, almost in the urban legend category, that the Soviet Union had developed some mysterious substance called 'red mercury' that can be used in nuclear weapons construction, and that this 'red mercury' may be available on the black market for  000- 000 per kilo. Rumors have touted it as being able to just about anything including: making stealth aircraft stealthier, infrared sensors more sensitive, counterfeits harder to detect, and fission and fusion bombs smaller and easier to construct. It may be radioactive or not. It may be the densest material or it may not. ... I would wager that red mercury may be useful for much more than destruction. What can kill can cure, eh? Anyway, the truth makes free."

fringe Using Pseudoscience as an Aid to Teaching General and Analytical Chemistry 2000 Feb 25
     ... science . chemistry ...
"This paper briefly describes a four-level approach to using pseudoscience and pathological science as tools to further educational goals in second-semester general chemistry and analytical chemistry courses. It provides detailed information about five specific areas of pseudoscience, pathological science, or anomaly investigations that are applicable to chemical education, and describes two student special projects and student experiences at a conference on controversial research."
